There is an issue I feel so strongly about I am going to attempt my first blog post. I have been photographing beautiful people for 30 years now and as good as I get there is something missing. Do I need better lights, better cameras or more retouching? In the last several months I have had several shoots with ordinary people but with one big difference, they have requested make-up. I first sent them to the local mall, but noticed the results although pretty, came across kind of harsh in pictures. So I reached out to several make-up artist I had met at weddings and fashion shoots. I was supprized at how affordable they were and so for the next month I paid for them out of my own pocket as kind of a test.
After the shoots I asked "how was your experience?" Overwelmingly I got "We felt so pampered and relaxed that by the time the picture taking begun, we were very confident that the pictures were going to be awesome"
I noticed the people had more personality, smiled bigger, felt more confident and I might even say had a little Attitude!
Even though some people are great at applying their own make-up, todays high resolution cameras see every little detail. A professional make-up artist will know how to apply your make-up to work best with photography. Also, the Hair and make-up artist will stay throughout the shoot and make sure that everything is in place and do touch-ups when needed. We have several great make up artists we use depending on the look you are going for.
I’ve posted an example of how much of a difference this step in the process to beautiful portraiture can be. Even though the posing and lighting make a huge difference too, you can clearly see here why we highly recommend a professional hair and make-up artist.
You might also want to plan a night out afterwards as you will look like a fashion model ready to walk the red carpet
